Raranga Workshop with Rewa Grimsdale

  • Parnell Community Centre 545 Parnell Road Auckland, Auckland, 1052 New Zealand (map)

Join us for a workshop that connects us with the self-sustaining practices passed down through generations. Rewa, a skilled Whatuako (weaver teacher), will guide participants through the ancient Māori art of raranga, teaching the techniques of weaving a flower and crafting a kete. Throughout the workshop, she will share valuable oral traditions and methods, including how to extract muka (fiber) for a piupiu tag or cordage. As part of the experience, Rewa will also introduce you to Rongoā Māori, sharing medicinal plants and their uses, many of which come directly from her garden. With over a decade of weaving experience since 2009 and teaching since 2012, Rewa offers a unique opportunity to connect with the whenua, learn traditional skills, and embrace the wisdom of our Māori ancestors.
