Embroidery: Create your own felt needle case is part of our Crafts & Mixed Media classes, held at Parnell Community Centre in Auckland.

Give your needles the beautiful home they deserve in this creative, hands-on course. A relaxing evening class with friendly crafters. Over five sessions, you’ll learn how to craft a hand-stitched felt needle case, enhanced with your own unique embroidered design. 

Whether you’re completely new to embroidery or looking to refine your style, this class will guide you step-by-step while encouraging your creativity. 

You’ll explore techniques that result in a functional yet artistic keepsake—something both practical and personal.

Required Materials:

  • One A4 felt sheet any preferred color.

  • Two / Three small pieces of felt different color as the A4 sheet.

  • Embroidery cotton threads any color. Minimum 3 different colors.

  • Embroidery needles No. 3, 5 or 7

  • Chenille Needles No. 22.

  • Small pieces of fabric (could be fabric scraps)

If required, an embroidery kit is available for an additional $18, includes: A4 felt sheet, small pieces of felt, cotton thread, embroidery needles and pieces of fabric. This can be paid in cash or bank transfer on the first day of the class to tutor.

Our Tutor: Lina Castro

I started as an embroidery artist in 2015, working in small projects and creating new ways of contemporary applications, since then it has become part of my life.

Thanks to embroidery, I have been able to connect creative worlds and discover new ones.

Trained as an Industrial Designer, my obsession has been to expand the possibilities of embroidery beyond the hoop and sharing the opportunities this craft can offer to creatives.

I have experience as an embroidery tutor and design. Teaching embroidery has been a beautiful way for me to share my passion for this amazing craft. I hope for my students to find in this contemporary practice a new way to express themselves.
