Exploring Local Stories Through Our Heritage Walks
This year's Heritage Festival proved to be a huge success, with all of our heritage walks fully booked as community members eagerly signed up to explore the stories and history that have shaped our local neighbourhoods.
The popularity of the walks highlighted a growing interest in local heritage and a desire to better understand the people, places, and events that have contributed to the communities we know today. Across each walk, participants had the opportunity to discover historic landmarks, hear fascinating stories, and learn about the unique character and history of the area.
One of the highlights of the programme was seeing such a diverse mix of participants taking part. Long-time residents shared memories and local knowledge, while newcomers enjoyed uncovering the rich history of the neighbourhoods they now call home. Along the way, conversations flowed naturally as people connected through a shared curiosity about the past.
The sold-out walks were a wonderful reminder that heritage is about much more than historic buildings. It is about the stories, traditions, and communities that continue to shape our neighbourhoods and create a sense of belonging.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our knowledgeable guides, organisers, and everyone who joined us throughout the festival. Your enthusiasm and engagement helped make the programme such a success and demonstrated just how much people value opportunities to connect with local history.
We were delighted by the strong response to this year's walks and look forward to offering more opportunities for the community to explore, learn, and celebrate the stories that make our neighbourhoods unique.
