Woodland with Hydrangea 2 - Gill Barlow

$225.00

Using a small study derived from a photograph from Auckland Domain at the end of summer, the objective was to paint loosely and somewhat representationally the flowers and foliage of the photograph, capturing how the light reflects on the plants.

The study painting was scaled up onto the canvas, an activity that was a first for me. There were so many firsts as I worked on this project - first on canvas, first scaling up, first trying to work out light source and direction on a large scale. After several reworkings of certain areas including some “artistic” pruning of foliage to let the light in, I am really happy with this work.

Artist: Gill Barlow

Acrylic on Canvas. Unframed.

18 in x 24 in.
