Epsom Moon Festival Brings Community Together

On Saturday 3 October, Epsom Community Centre was buzzing with activity as hundreds of community members came together to celebrate the 2026 Epsom Moon Festival. The free family-friendly event featured traditional performances, cultural activities, and delicious food, creating a vibrant atmosphere that welcomed people of all ages and backgrounds. The festival was designed as a celebration of culture, community, and connection.

The Moon Festival is one of the most significant celebrations in many Asian cultures, and this year's event provided a wonderful opportunity for families to reconnect with cultural traditions while sharing them with the wider community. Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed a range of activities and experiences that showcased the rich diversity of Auckland's communities.

The success of the festival reflects the cultural diversity of Epsom and the growing interest in community events that bring people together through shared experiences. As reported by RNZ, Sanjay Pereira, our Village Square Trust Manager of Epsom Community Centre, highlighted the importance of the festival for the local community, noting that Epsom is home to a large and diverse Asian population and that festivals connected to the lunar calendar hold special significance for many families.

He shared his hope that the event would provide Asian families with an opportunity to reconnect with their cultures and customs, while also giving the wider community a chance to learn about and experience the diversity that makes our neighbourhood so special.

What made the day particularly memorable was seeing people from many different backgrounds come together to celebrate, learn, and connect. From families exploring cultural activities to friends gathering to enjoy performances and food, the festival embodied the spirit of community that Epsom Community Centre strives to foster.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, and supported the event. Your enthusiasm and participation helped make the Epsom Moon Festival a tremendous success.

We look forward to continuing to celebrate the many cultures that make our community so vibrant and welcoming.
