1-3pm
$5 per session
-
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new History Club at the Parnell Community Centre starting on 9th July! This club provides a welcoming space for us to explore and discuss Aotearoa New Zealand's early and colonial history.
Our meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, starting at 1pm. During these sessions, we'll enjoy stimulating conversations over afternoon tea.
Whether you're a hobbyist, a historian, or simply curious about New Zealand's past, everyone is welcome to join in. Your insights and perspectives will enrich our discussions and deepen our understanding of local history.
The volunteer convener of the group is Paul Pentecost, who holds degrees in political studies and philosophy. He considers himself an amateur rather than a professional historian. Currently self-employed in technical chart analysis and newsletter writing about the markets, Paul is enthusiastic about launching the History Club at the Parnell Community Centre. The club aims to provide a welcoming space for exploring and discussing the early and colonial history of Aotearoa New Zealand together.
If there's a particular topic you're eager to explore or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We're here to create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all participants of the History Club!

We're happy to announce the restart of our Film Club at the Parnell Community Centre! Join us on the third Thursday of each month from 1-3pm for engaging discussions about the latest movies.
Our discussion group will be convened by Kerry Carter, a passionate film goer. Kerry will facilitate our conversations where everyone can share their thoughts on the ideas and themes that each film explores.
Before our first gathering on July 18th, we encourage you to watch the film "Freud's Last Session," currently showing at Rialto. This film delves into a captivating dialogue between C.S. Lewis, author of "The Chronicles of Narnia," and Freud.
Additionally, consider catching "The Taste of Things," also showing at Rialto, which offers a charming mix of food and romance.
